Staying Up to Say Goodbye; Whatever Words #14

That time of year again where my partner must go to war, while I wait at home for their arrival, Black Friday. To be cute, I decided to stay up to see them off since they were waking up so early. I caught up on my backlog, playing  Mouthwashing and Stories Untold,  both wonderful games that fit that late night vibes. Both turned out as well as I anticipated...very whelming. The stories for both were better than expected, just some gameplay moments that took me out at times. Mouthwashing devs are some creative people, you can tell by the type of achievements the game has. You get a scanner, that is a UV light, to let your character read secret codes. Early on, you learn a code for a container that you don't get access to until the later half. During the level, you have the opportunity to go back to the code room to learn it again. If you open the container without going back to the code room, you get an achievement. Rewarding players for exploring is always a plus . Stories U...

Looking at DVD Menus; Whatever Words #13

Ever since watching The Godfather , which I am currently writing a post about, I’ve taken a deeper look at DVD menu screens. Once I make the post you’ll understand why, but so far— comparing it to the other two recent movies I’ve seen— The Godfather has a good menu screen. Late Night with the Devil and The Lobster have simple DVD menu screens that show very little, but that works with the type of story they’re trying to tell. The Godfather just elevated it a step further. If I ever became a film-creative, I think I would like to focus on trailers and compare them to the actual movies. My big inspiration is how much I HATE when trailers spoil the whole movie, especially if they reveal the last scene of the movie. Yes, this happens. Spoilers for The Apparition , but the shot of Ashley Greene being covered in hands does not happen until the very end. That’s the very end of the movie and they use that shot in trailers and pretty similar to the movie poster. Recently, I was inspired ...

Just A Lot of Game Stuff; Whatever Words #12

As I’ve been playing these Pokemon fan-made games , I’ve gone back to Unbond. I played it on my Steam Deck, but now I am restarting on my phone. Whenever I replay a Pokemon game, I always aim to use a different team and setup. In Unbond, your starter can be Beldum, who I picked the first time, Larvitar, who I used as a starter in a different game , and Gible, who I picked this time around. Since I’ve been playing these games , I decided to support the emulator I’ve been using and paid for the pro edition. Only a few dollars so it was nothing crazy. I was worried because I had started the game on the free version, and I had to transfer my save state to the paid version. Trouble at first, but I was luckily able to figure it out, so I do not have to restart for a third time. Metaphor update, I am really close to beating the game . This past weekend I locked in and had time to play, now I’m in the final act. I am enjoying this game so much; I really do plan to start new game plus immed...

Back to Pokemon; Whatever Words #11

So far, I have not beaten the game so this is a prediction, but I think Metaphor: ReFantazio will end up as one of my favorite games of all time. The game is fun, story is good, the main theme I am into, the art direction is spectacular, like so far this game has it all. I will say that I am using a guide to help me through it, to make sure I am hitting all the key points. Part of me believes I will want to play this game again, but I won’t know for sure until I beat it. I have started playing Pokemon Outlaw , a fan-made ROM hack that takes place in FireRed, but with a different twist. Very mature themed, not made for kids. The creator made another Rom hack that I’m interested in playing called Cawps, where you play as cop. I had a lot of fun with Rocket Edition, where you play as a member of Team Rocket, so playing another game with a different theme sounds fun. The Pokemon Roms I tend to enjoy have their own story to tell, while I ignore the ones that make the game harder. Nothing ...

Onigiri Connoisseur; Making Onigiri

So, I tried out a new thing. I got some onigiri from the store and thought to myself, “I could make this.”  I was in the H Mart area to catch up with my sister on life, so I decided now was the best time to get some ingredients. Did I prepare a list beforehand? Absolutely not. All I knew was that I would need seaweed, tuna, and a triangle onigiri mold. I had rice, Kewpie mayo, and sriracha (gotta add some spice, ya know) at home. Got everything I needed except the mold, which I then had to order online. After it arrived, I, the person who does not normally cook or prepare food that does not require a microwave, tried to make onigiri. Honestly, turned out pretty good. Initially for round one, I was silly and used soy sauce– not sure what recipe I found included it, more likely I read the recipe wrong. Second round, I added the siracha for some spice and that was a good idea (thanks partner). I will also be honest and admit that I cut the seaweed wrong. Instead of a long skinny st...

Cheering; Positive Comments/Replies

Recently, I was listening to Gregway , a Kinda Funny podcast , and Greg was talking about negative comments. While listening, I started thinking about all the hate I’ve also seen not just in the video game community, but on Twitter (X) as well. I then came up with the idea of posting positive comments. Not let me explain why this is such a big deal, for me. I am an introvert at heart. I’m in the communities, I like posts, but I don’t comment often. I commented one time on a One Piece theory post and some random person replied back, to then led to me replying back and a conversation ensued. It was a great discussion, both of us civil, talking from our own perspectives, but having to keep up with the conversation itself was draining. Twitter (X) limits the number of characters for a post, and I’m sure you can tell from my blog, I like to type/write/speak. Short and quick responses are not my thing, and being limited on how many words I am allowed to use is deflating. The only way to ...
