Subtle, yet Bold; The Godfather DVD Menu

Okay, finally watched The Godfather. It’s a classic, it’s good, yeah this is information we all know. What I really want to talk about…is the DVD menu.

My partner and I did not notice that the menu screen is literally the scene where the Don dies. We did not notice that he was lying there in the field. The shot is so good with the shadows, he blends in so well. If you don’t know what you’re looking for, you will miss it, which was true for us.

The Setup menu is literally a screenshot of the whole setup of the movie. It’s the Don on the ground in front of his car after being shot. Having this be the background image is such a smart idea. You can barely see his face, so you don’t know who exactly it is if you haven’t seen the movie.

This is why physical media should still exist.
