Cracking A Cold One

As time goes on, catching up with old friends can be tough. Things that used to be done daily, now become once a week, maybe next month. The feelings of wanting to be there don't change, the limited available resource of time, changes.

This was the first time in awhile that I actually got on Discord two days in a row. Currently, I get on every two weeks so we can play D&D, usually staying on a bit after to hang out. But this time, the night after, I decided to get on again. On night two, near the start, I almost got off. My friends currently on, were playing a specific game I wasn't in the mood to play, so I had to wait. As I sat there on my phone, bored, I was thinking of getting off. Most solo games I wanted to play either had story elements I wanted to pay attention to or had save areas that were far apart. These were games I played on my own, so I can focus all my attention on them. Luckily, I had something new, a small free indie game about a dog who makes a mess in the house, Doronko Wanko.

This was a game I didn't mind playing and talking to friends at the same time. Because of this game, I decided to stay on, and by the time I got all achievements, my friends were done and ready to play something new together. We played Content Warning, an indie game I saw that was free on April 1st. Another night of fun with the gang, but at a cost. Both nights I had to wake up the next day for something important, work and a vet visit. Little sleep was gained both nights, and a realization had dawned upon me. We have the most fun late at night. Like at minimum, after 11p.m. At that point in time, we usually finish playing our main games and end up just talking or playing something goofy fun. Night one was due to talking, and night two was a goofy fun game.

This has led to the realization that my feelings for my friends have not changed, but the time I have available for them has shifted. Circumstances have updated, age has increased, but the time in the day, has remained. After my surgery, I've needed more rest, and as I keep getting older, the more easily exhausted I've become. Sleep is requiring more time from me to make sure I can properly function.

I want to get on more often and hang out with my friends; I just have to be an adult and schedule it in advance. You always need to schedule in time, cracking a cold one with good friends.
